EPA Acting Administrator Wheeler’s Toxic Chemical Agenda is Dangerous

Moms across the country fought hard to win the Lautenberg Chemicals Safety for the 21st Century Act. Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) and Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla) came together in an unprecedented bipartisan effort to protect us from dangerous chemicals and passed the bill in 2016.

The new law finally gave EPA the authority to screen the hundreds of new industrial chemicals that come on the market every year for safety, before our families are exposed to them. And it required EPA to evaluate the safety of the tens of thousands of chemicals that have already made it to store shelves, often without any safety data, starting with those that present the greatest potential risk.

Now, EPA Acting Administrator Wheeler is fighting hard to cripple this law—to the benefit of the chemical industry. Sen. Udall, has called implementation of the law a “remarkable disaster.”
