My mom traveled to Washington, DC, last week to ask Congress to defend our nation’s main chemical safety law: the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). This law is supposed to protect us from thousands of dangerous chemicals in our everyday products—from carpets to furniture to clothing to electronics.
Right now, some politicians and chemical industry lobbyists are trying to gut TSCA, making it easier for things like PFAS, asbestos, and formaldehyde to get into our bodies, air, and water. Join Moms in telling Congress to keep their hands off chemical safety protections!
Tell Congress: Protect Our Families From Harmful Toxic Chemicals
My mom is a pediatrician, a public health advocate, and mother to five kids. She traveled to DC to spotlight for lawmakers the robust, independent, peer-reviewed science that shows exposure to toxic chemicals can lead to poor health and chronic disease.
In meetings, she told members of Congress, “There is nothing worse, as a pediatrician, than to have to deliver difficult news to families that an illness or an injury could have been prevented. I’m thinking about newborns, toddlers, adolescents, and young adults who are in a vulnerable moment in their lives where we do not want to risk organs not developing well, DNA damage, or cognitive delays.” Amen! We should all be thinking about—and working to protect—these young people.
It is crucial that our families have protections to prevent exposures to toxic chemicals that could cause permanent harm. Make time today to urge Congress not to touch the Toxic Substances Control Act.
