Last spring, thousands of Moms like you signed petitions asking EPA to set the strongest possible protections for tailpipe pollution from cars and trucks. These two rules are critical in the fight to give our children the clean air and stable climate they deserve.
It’s time for the Biden administration to get these clean transportation protections over the finish line. Let’s get this done!
The Clean Trucks Rule will limit climate pollution from the tailpipes of heavy-duty trucks. And the Clean Cars Rule will limit both planet-heating climate pollution from car exhaust as well as other types of tailpipe pollution, like health-harming particle pollution (soot) and nitrogen oxides.
Both rules will help speed the transition to zero-emissions electric vehicles. According to a new report from the American Lung Association, rapidly transitioning to a zero-emissions vehicle fleet would not only help address climate change’s impact on children’s health, it could also mean avoiding millions of health impacts for children aged 18 and younger, including:
- 79 million asthma attacks avoided
- 67 million upper respiratory symptoms avoided (wet cough, runny nose, burning eyes)
- 87 million lower respiratory symptoms avoided (coughing, wheezing or chest pain)
- 147,000 acute bronchitis cases avoided
- 508 infant death cases avoided
The Biden administration has an extraordinary opportunity to protect children’s health by setting the strongest possible Clean Cars and Clean Trucks Rules and rapidly moving forward our collective transition to zero-emissions transportation.
Right now, these rules are awaiting finalization by EPA. Join Moms in urging the administration to get them across the finish line as soon as possible.
