Last week, our southwest field organizer Ylenia Aguilar joined Arizona leaders and advocates in calling on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to finalize strong clean car standards, as reported in the Arizona Mirror and Prensa Arizona. This morning, EPA did just that.
- These major reductions in tailpipe pollution are poised to steer us toward a cleaner, greener future. The transportation sector is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S.
- Tailpipe pollution is bad for our bodies too. It is known to harm our hearts, lungs, and brains, and because of housing discrimination and unjust policies, people of color and low-income families are often disproportionately exposed to it.
- EPA is expected to take on pollution from trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles next. According to a recent survey by the American Lung Association, the majority of voters support stronger truck pollution protections. Our Senior Legislative and Regulatory Policy Manager Melody Reis (pictured) explains the “why” behind this groundswell of support in an interview with Forbes.
