Let’s start with the most important thing first: our children and communities deserve protection from the dangers of all fossil fuel power plants.
Thankfully, EPA is already making progress on cleaning up power plant pollution. Earlier this spring, the agency announced a final rule that will meaningfully address climate-heating, health-harming pollution from new and existing coal-fired power plants and new gas power plants.
Now, we’re letting EPA know that they must set the strongest possible protections for existing gas power plants too.
Tell EPA: We Need Strong Protections From Gas Power Plant Pollution
Fossil fuel power plants are responsible for almost a quarter of the climate pollution generated by the U.S., and approximately 60% of power generation comes from burning fossil fuels like coal and natural gas.
We’re all feeling the impacts of climate change already, and scientists have warned that the summer of 2024 may be another season of record-breaking storms and heat.
EPA Administrator Michael Regan announced in February that the agency would be taking a comprehensive new approach to setting protections for existing gas power plants. He promised protections that will robustly address greenhouse gases and other dangerous air pollutants from these plants. He’s also promised that these protections will keep the input and safety of vulnerable frontline communities at its heart.
There’s nothing closer to our hearts than keeping our children and communities safe from harmful power plant pollution.
Let’s tell EPA we support strong protections for existing gas power plants—and want to see a rulemaking process that centers community input move forward without delay.
