Last week, EPA proposed strong standards to protect people from the hazardous air pollution emitted by more than 200 of the largest, most toxic petrochemical manufacturing facilities in the country. These polluting facilities make chemicals that become plastics.
Thousands of you sent messages to EPA over the last few months calling for this type of significant and consequential action to crack down on the plastics industry—to prevent petrochemical disasters and protect people from petrochemical pollution.
The petrochemical industry releases an extraordinary amount of toxic air pollution. It has done so for generations, with cruel disregard for the devastating impacts on communities around their facilities.
People have paid with their health. Petrochemical facilities are commonly located in communities that are impacted by multiple pollution sources contributing to a cumulative pollution burden and an elevated risk of asthma attacks, respiratory illness, neurological problems, adverse birth outcomes, and cancer.
EPA has a fundamental duty to hold the petrochemical industry accountable and protect the health of people impacted by toxic pollution. There is no time to waste in tackling this glaring injustice.
We all use plastic. Every single day. And so, even while we try to cut back on plastic use and waste, we all have a responsibility to demand that plastic production doesn’t endanger people’s health.

When EPA begins accepting comments on this important proposal, Moms Clean Air Force will work with EPA to achieve the most durable, powerful, and enforceable protections from petrochemical pollution for everyone.
For now, join us in thanking EPA for taking this critical step to safeguard people—especially children—from plastics and petrochemical manufacturing facilities.
TELL EPA: THANK YOU FOR TAKING STEPS TO PROTECT PEOPLE FROM PETROCHEMICAL POLLUTION
