The CEO of eBay has just indicated that he is open to leaving ALEC. This is good news. Let’s keep up the pressure.
Here is why this matters: eBay has made some terrific, conscientious choices in the way it uses energy—and has shown real leadership there. That’s why it is appalling that the company would support a climate-denying organization like ALEC. We need the people who really get it—people like those who work at eBay—to show leadership in facing the climate crisis we confront. Groups like ALEC spend vast sums to sow confusion and foster disinformation—and protect big fossil fuel interests, which include unregulated pollution, incredibly enough.
2014 is shaping up to be the hottest year, globally, on record. We do not have time to waste. And no one should waste their good reputation, and good money, on organizations that want to push us backwards, into the days of unregulated pollution and runaway global warming. That’s what ALEC is up to, friends. So tell eBay: Continue to be leaders.
Hundreds of thousands of parents want responsible leadership from the companies they trust and admire.
