“Advanced recycling” is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Plastic industry lobbyists are pushing Congress to support this practice, which is masquerading as a solution to the plastic pollution crisis. The catch is “advanced recycling” is NOT recycling at all—it is the incineration of plastics, plain and simple.
Dr. Jessica Knurick, scientist and public health influencer, knows this and recently posted a video on Instagram calling out the plastics industry’s lies. Join her and thousands of Moms’ members in speaking out. Tell Congress to protect our health from plastic incineration.
Tell Congress: Burning Plastic Is Not a Solution to the Plastics Crisis
As Dr. Knurick says in the video, burning plastics creates dangerous air pollution and chemical waste, including heavy metals, benzene, and formaldehyde. We know our kids are the most vulnerable to these pollutants. Children living near plastics incinerators are at increased risk of health impacts affecting the brain, lungs, and heart as well as birth defects and cancer.
By calling this practice “recycling,” the plastic industry is trying to dodge the Clean Air Act’s strict pollution controls for incinerators. They are looking for a free pass to pollute in our communities while claiming they’ve found a solution to the plastics crisis, all so they can continue producing enormous amounts of toxic plastic.
This is an outrage—but our voices can make a difference. Tell Congress to protect our families’ health from “advanced recycling.”
