The bad news: Corporate lobbyists are back on Capitol Hill peddling a trio of disastrous bills that will make it easier for the plastics industry to pollute our air and water and lie to us about it. The worse news: Congress is listening.
Now is the time to get loud. That’s why Moms are taking action today for children, families, communities, and workers who are impacted by the plastic industry’s toxic pollution.
Tell Congress: Protect Our Health, Not the Plastics Industry
What the bills do:
- Promote “advanced recycling,” a heavily polluting practice of plastics incineration in which nothing is actually recycled.
- Allow packagers to deceive the public about the amount of recycled material in products.
- Weaken the Clean Air Act by removing critical health protections.
What they don’t do—critically: Offer any solution at all to the global plastics crisis.
Evidence continues to mount showing plastic chemical exposure is harming the health of children and adults alike, especially those living near production and processing facilities. These health harms can include cancer, asthma and respiratory illness, kidney disease, preterm birth, and low birth weight.
And yet the plastic industry’s response is to make even more plastic. For our children’s health and safety, we cannot let this happen.
Join Moms in sending a message to lawmakers: We need strong protections from plastics industry pollution, not irreparable damage.
