Diesel pollution is dangerous. And right now, EPA is facing pressure to delay or deny authorization for California’s waiver to implement Advanced Clean Fleet (ACF) protections—protections that are critical for safeguarding families from health-harming diesel exhaust.
Eleven states have already adopted these pollution protections. But EPA must approve the rules in order for states to enforce them.
Tell EPA: Let States Set Pollution Protections for Vehicle Fleets
For nearly 50 years, California and other states have had the explicit right under the Clean Air Act to safeguard families’ health by choosing clean vehicle standards that are more protective than the federal standards. ACF protections are one set of these stronger state standards that apply to heavy-duty trucks operating at ports and railyards and vehicle fleets owned by state, local, and federal government agencies.
ACF protections will improve the health and quality of life of historically marginalized communities of color, where families disproportionately suffer daily from the deadly diesel pollution that spews from nearby ports, rail yards, and warehouses.
They also represent a big step toward solving chronic air quality problems in states that are particularly impacted by diesel exhaust and other sources of toxic air pollution.
- Electrifying municipal fleets is essential to addressing the pollution right outside our front doors.
- Electrifying port drayage trucks will clean up some of the oldest and dirtiest vehicles on our roads.
Zero-emission trucks are here. We have the technology; we must use it to end suffering from diesel pollution and put us on a path to clean air.
