Voting is an absolutely crucial way to express our values—but if you’re reading the headlines, you know our free and fair elections are currently under threat. That means it’s more essential than ever that we turn out to vote in record numbers.

Every Voice Matters: Pledge to Vote
The right to vote is sacred and hard-fought. For over a century, citizens worked tirelessly to secure unfettered access to the ballot, fighting the same battles over and over again. Remember:
- Women were not granted the right to vote until 1920, 131 years after property-owning white men could vote.
- Though the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920 was a victory a century in the making, it excluded Black, Brown, Native, and other people of color in practice.
- Poll taxes and literacy tests blocked millions from exercising their lawful right to vote.
- Not until 1965, with the passage of the Voting Rights Act (VRA), was the right to vote for people of color meaningfully protected. And now, much of the VRA has been gutted by the Supreme Court.
Voting is the most powerful tool we have to ensure a safe and healthy future for our children. That’s why we had to fight so hard—so many people wanted to restrict our right to speak out at the ballot box. But this right is essential. Let’s use our votes!
