WASHINGTON, DC– The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced today that 2024 was officially the United States’ hottest year on record. Extreme heat poses a major threat to the health of families, and especially that of children.
Moms Clean Air Force Southwest Field Organizer Ylenia Aguilar released the following statement in response to NOAA’s announcement:
“Here in Phoenix, air conditioning isn’t a luxury—it’s survival. But reliable access to cooling isn’t an option for everyone and Latino communities bear the brunt of this inequity. Latinos are disproportionately represented in the outdoor workforce, and they are among those most likely to live on urban heat islands. Children, pregnant people, and older adults often suffer the most. The good news is that we have a lot of tools to slow climate change and adapt to rising temperatures. But they don’t work if we don’t use them.”
