The Trump administration is aggressively trying to roll back environmental protections and bail out the toxic, expensive coal industry. It’s a direct threat to our children’s health.
They have doubled down on a “Polluters’ First” agenda, bending over backward to keep dirty coal plants online and weaken safeguards against their pollution. They are even directing utilities to keep previously retiring coal plants operating—like the Campbell coal plant in Michigan, where my friend and Moms’ organizer Elizabeth Hauptman lives.
Elizabeth’s family, along with families in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin are paying tens of millions of dollars in higher electricity bills to keep this one plant open—at a time when so many are already struggling to pay for basic needs.
Tell the Trump Administration: Don't Bail Out Coal. Protect Our Children's Health!
Coal plants are dangerous for our communities. They release harmful pollution, including soot and mercury, that causes and worsens asthma, bronchitis, and other severe respiratory illnesses in developing lungs and can harm brain health. Children—like Elizabeth’s son, who has asthma—are the most vulnerable. We cannot afford policies that prioritize corporate polluters over their future.
We know that coal is bad for our health, our environment, and our wallets. Join Moms in sending an undeniable message that we will not allow our children’s health or family budgets to be sacrificed for an outdated, toxic industry.
