Columbus, OH – In response to the one-year anniversary of the date news broke of the $61 million bribery scandal surrounding House Bill 6, Tracy Sabetta, Moms Clean Air Force Field Organizer in Ohio, issued the following statement:
“One year ago, Ohio families watched as the scandal surrounding House Bill 6 rocked the Statehouse. Former Speaker Larry Householder and his associates perpetrated a bribery scheme that mortgaged our children’s health and future to line their pockets with bribes from FirstEnergy. One year later, it is well past time to right this wrong and restore faith and confidence in our state government once again.
“While the attack on our state’s renewable and energy efficiency standards is still in place, our General Assembly is also allowing the subsidies for some of our region’s dirtiest coal plants to continue draining funds from Ohio ratepayers. Our families want to see leadership with a focus on the future and the integrity that should be demonstrated by our lawmakers. Instead, they have seen that the Statehouse is for sale.
“One year later, our elected officials have a choice to make. Continue to reward corruption or create good jobs and protect clean air for our children and grandchildren. Clean energy development reduces pollution and improves the health of all Ohio children, especially those who are disproportionately impacted by rising temperatures and poor air quality.
“We need an equitable, comprehensive clean energy policy that works for all Ohioans. Our children learn by example, and they are watching. Please do not let them down.”
