Women of color have long faced unique and specific health disparities, especially when it comes to fertility, pregnancy, and birth.
On May 8, we’re convening policy experts, health care professionals, environmental advocates, community leaders, and media voices, including our partners at The 19th, to discuss the current state of maternal health for women of color. Speakers will address how threats like air pollution, extreme heat, and toxic chemicals in plastics negatively affect maternal and child health.
Our esteemed panelists include:
- Dr. Sharon Malone, OB-GYN, and author of Grown Woman Talk
- Dr. Jalonne White-Newsome, PhD, former Senior Director for Environmental Justice, White House Council on Environmental Quality
- Dr. Doris Browne, 118th President of the National Medical Association
- Rev. Dr. Leslie Copeland-Tune, Climate Justice Advocate and Chief Operating Officer
- Barbara Rodriguez, The 19th
- Jessica Kutz, The 19th
- And more!
They’ll talk about how environmental exposure to air pollution and plastics over time drives maternal health harm, especially in communities of color. They’ll also cover the dangers of extreme heat during pregnancy, gaps in research and injustice in public health, and so much more.
This is your opportunity to learn from policy experts and lawmakers about actions we can take to mobilize community and change policy to protect mothers and children of color from air pollution, extreme heat, and toxic chemicals.
