This is a Moms Clean Air Force exclusive interview with Iowa State Representative Ruth Ann Gaines:
What is unique about protecting Iowa’s resources?
It’s important to protect Iowa’s resources because we live in an area that has vast environmental resources. We’re very lucky in that aspect, so we shouldn’t take it for granted.
As a parent are you worried about the effects of climate change on your children and the children of Iowa?
It’s very important to protect the children of Iowa and the effects of climate change have become obvious. To ignore it is to ignore the well-being of our children.
Why is a bipartisan effort so important and how can these efforts be achieved in our politically polarizing culture?
In order for most efforts to truly be recognized and reach momentum, it usually takes a bipartisan effort. In order to achieve this, we (both parties) have to communicate with each other and connect with an open mind. It’s important to listen to each other fully, and, more importantly, to understand and empathize with how we feel on the matters at hand.
Iowa just passed California in generating electricity from wind. Iowa is and is now second only to Texas in wind energy.
How does wind energy benefit Iowans?
I think this benefits Iowans immensely. Not only are we boosting jobs by creating wind farms, we are becoming more green. We’re taking care of the world around us, and it’s really putting Iowa on the map for wind electricity.
Is there anything you’d like to share that is important for Moms Clean Air Force members to know?
Our children are our world and we must protect our world. (Tweet this)Ruth Ann Gaines is serving her third term in the Iowa House of Representatives.
