The latest horrific proposal in EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin’s POLLUTION SPREE is to end the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program. Required by Congress, the program provides critical public information about climate pollution from the largest emitters.
This is yet another act by the Trump administration that will harm our children. It is coming right after EPA’s attempt to cancel its responsibility to curb climate pollution. Under Zeldin’s direction, EPA has veered far from its mission to “protect human health and the environment” despite what he promised Senators during his confirmation hearing. This is an outrage.
Tell EPA: Save the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program
For 15 years, EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program has provided life-or-death information needed to protect people from global warming and all the damage it brings: worse floods and fires, extreme heat, air pollution, and rising insurance costs.
So many rely on this information: communities, state and local governments, and businesses. How else would anyone know both the sources and scale of pollution that causes climate change, including from oil and gas facilities, landfills, and power plants?
Eliminating the program won’t make the climate crisis somehow miraculously go away. Perhaps Mr. Zeldin thinks we are too dumb to understand that our climate is warming, that the warming comes from burning fossil fuels with little or no pollution controls—and that warming is turbo-charging weather systems around the globe and costing people their lives, their health, and the safety of our children’s futures.
This is not protecting human health. This is not protecting the environment. This is not keeping our children safe.
