My heart has been breaking these last two weeks as—thanks to executive orders signed by the new president targeting immigrants for mass deportation—I’ve watched children, families, veterans, and Tribal members across the country who are afraid. They are afraid to leave their homes, to go to school, the market, or church. They are bracing for the trauma of being separated from their parents and watching classmates, friends, and neighbors disappear.
A culture of fear, disrespect, and cruelty is taking hold in the U.S. To make matters even worse, as the destructive, life-altering impacts of global warming grow ever more severe, the pressure at our borders, and across the world, will increase. In 2020 alone, 10 million children were displaced by weather-related disasters. This is a real problem, happening now.
Climate-displaced families need a support system. Join Moms in urging Congress to introduce legislation that addresses climate migration.
Tell Congress: Support Families Displaced by Climate Disaster
There are no simplistic answers to a complex problem like immigration. Immigration can take an extreme toll on individuals, families, and countries.
But there are simple values that anchor civilized society and help us determine ways to proceed with humanity and compassion. We must reject recklessness and cruelty. All people deserve safety, health, and dignity.
Today, we’re calling on Congress to support humane immigration policies that are durable, sustainable, and effective—and to remain actively engaged in our global commitments to reduce the climate pollution driving many families to migrate.
