When the Shell Pennsylvania Petrochemical Complex came to Beaver County, it promised to revitalize the local economy. But so far, it’s mostly brought pollution. Ohio River Valley Field Organizer Rachel Meyer, who lives only a few short miles away from the plastic-producing plant, tells The Guardian that it didn’t take long for the community to realize that the facility would bring “environmental disaster.”
Vanessa Lynch (pictured), one of Moms’ Pennsylvania field organizers, also sat down with The Guardian to highlight the dissonance between Shell’s assurances and the community’s experience. The company says they want to help, but residents can’t ignore the red sky at night and the weird smells.
