Tucson, AZ – On Wednesday, August 11, at 9:30 AM PST, Arizona State Senator Kirsten Engel (LD-10) will join Tucson local businesses and public health professionals for an in-person press conference at the Historic Train Depot (near Hotel Congress) calling for strong federal investments in clean transportation infrastructure. The event is sponsored by Moms Clean Air Force Arizona and BlueGreen Alliance as part of a series of grassroots events coordinated by the Climate Action Campaign.
Transportation accounts for almost a third of all U.S. air pollution and is the single largest source of climate-harming carbon pollution in the country. Investments in clean transportation are essential for reducing Tucson’s air pollution, improving public health, creating good jobs and spurring the local economy. Tucson-based public transit system Sun Tran recently added an electric transit bus with additional zero-pollution buses expected to hit the streets of Tucson by the end of the year. Featured speakers will emphasize how a bold federal investment in clean transportation will help further the city’s goal to get more electric buses on Tucson streets, which will only further boost and benefit the local economy while helping to clean up the air for Arizona families, workers, visitors and businesses.
