WHAT: Moms Clean Air Force staff and organizers from Louisiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia will testify before EPA in support of the agency’s proposed chemical manufacturing standards, urging the agency to finalize the most protective rules possible. These are critical public health safeguards that would help protect people from the hazardous air pollution released by more than 200 of the largest, most toxic chemical manufacturing facilities in the country. The facilities are located across the US with concentrations in the Houston Ship Channel, Cancer Alley Louisiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania.
WHO: Moms from the following states will provide testimony: LA, OH, PA, TX, VA, and WV. The following individuals will be available for interview:
- Erandi Treviño, Texas State Coordinator. Erandi lives in Southeast Houston, Texas, just a few miles from the Houston Ship Channel. Her neighborhood is heavily impacted by chemical pollution.
- Brooke Petry, Pennsylvania State Coordinator. Brooke lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with her family near the AdvanSix petrochemical facility. She and her daughter both suffer from asthma, which is exacerbated by air pollution exposure.
- Cynthia Palmer, Senior Policy Analyst on Petrochemicals. Cynthia is Moms Clean Air Force’s lead expert on petrochemicals. With a background in environmental and occupational health and in law, Cynthia can speak to the technical aspects of this rule and its potential impact.
WHEN: The hearing will take place on Tuesday, May 16. Please inquire for speaking order information.
WHERE: Reporters may watch the hearing from a link that will be posted here.
