Washington, DC—On Wednesday, June 28, at 10:15 AM ET, Stephanie Reese, Director of DEIJ and Strategic Implementation for Moms Clean Air Force; Russell Armstrong, Policy Director for Climate and Environment, Hip Hop Caucus; Dr. Quinta Warren, Associate Director of Sustainability Policy, Consumer Reports; Cara Cook, MS, RN, AHN-BC, Director of Programs, Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments; and Sheryl E. Ponds, Founder and CEO DaiTechCorp, gathered for a press conference as part of the final stop of the Route Zero Relay.
The event underscored the urgency to move forward with historic federal investments in charging infrastructure, battery manufacturing, and consumer tax incentives that aid in the switch to electric vehicles. The gathering coincides with EPA’s draft federal clean cars standards, aiming to decrease air pollution, enhance the production of cleaner vehicles, and address the escalating climate crisis.
Speakers urged the Biden administration and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to finalize the most robust version of the recently announced draft standards for vehicle pollution safeguards for all automobiles, pickup trucks, and delivery vans produced from 2027 through 2032. They delivered public comments collected so far and encouraged groups and individuals to submit their public comments about these draft standards before the comment period closes on July 5.
