Moms Clean Air Force and the Climate Action Campaign Unveil Interactive Map to Reveal How Georgia Won Big from Climate Investments Provided by the Inflation Reduction Act and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act
ATLANTA, GA– Today, Moms Clean Air Force and the Climate Action Campaign (CAC) unveiled a new, interactive ‘Climate Wins Here’ map to demonstrate how Georgians and people across the country are already benefiting from historic climate and clean energy investments. The map demonstrates how President Biden’s clean energy plan – specifically the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) – is delivering for all people across the United States.
Together, the IRA and the IIJA included nearly a trillion dollars in investments to address the climate crisis. To date, $11 billion has been allocated – and that number is growing. The Climate Wins Here map tracks how these investments are cutting dangerous pollution, driving the clean economy, and advancing environmental justice in Georgia and across the country.
Since the passage of these investments, Georgia has been on the receiving end of several investments stemming from President Biden’s affordable clean energy plan, including:
- Receiving $317M in funds to benefit Georgians across the state
- Funds to rehabilitate 6 bridges throughout Athens-Clarke County
- Georgia school districts in 15 counties receiving more than $50M to provide clean school buses
“President Biden’s clean energy plan is cutting pollution and delivering promised local investments in clean energy,” said Climate Action Campaign Director Margie Alt. “This map will show the American people exactly how and where that’s happening — including in their own states.”
CAC’s goal, according to Alt, is to connect the president’s clean energy plan to the economic and environmental benefits that Americans across the country are beginning to see.
“The IRA and the bipartisan infrastructure law are accelerating our transition to a clean energy economy,” Alt said. “Our Climate Wins Here map is connecting the dots for people, to show them these laws are already working. We’re drawing a straight line from these historic climate investments to the improved air quality in their neighborhoods, the increased clean energy getting onto the grid, and to the infrastructure projects protecting their homes, businesses, and livelihoods from the ravages of a rapidly changing climate.”
“Georgians are already winning big and experiencing the health and economic benefits of the clean energy investments included in the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act,” said Lily Zwaan, Moms Clean Air Force Georgia Coordinator. “Every dot on the Climate Wins Here map is just one story in the larger picture of how climate is winning in America, and why it’s so crucial for the Biden administration to finish the job on climate.”
CAC is hosting the Climate Wins Here map on its website and has been tracking the money and investments that have “gone out the door” since August of 2022. The map includes data from The White House, EPA, DOE, DOT, DOI, and other related agencies announcing disbursements of the Inflation Reduction Act and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funds.
