WASHINGTON, DC—Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that school districts can now apply for $965 million in Clean School Bus Program funding, which helps schools replace aging diesel-fueled buses with low- and zero-emission models. This round will be distributed as rebates to selected school districts. Funding for the Clean School Bus Program was allocated by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and has already helped school districts across the country secure approximately 8,200 electric school buses.
In response, Senior Legislative and Regulatory Policy Manager Melody Reis issued the following statement:
“Children across the country are heading back to school right now. The vast majority of them are riding in dirty diesel buses, which spew climate-warming, health-harming pollution in the neighborhoods and communities where kids live, learn, and play. We’re thrilled that EPA has launched another round of their popular rebate program, offering school districts the opportunity to go electric and invest in a cleaner, safer future for our kids.”
