Browning cites Zeldin’s Corruption of Agency’s Mission; Sweeping and Unprecedented Clean Air Rollbacks with Dangerous Health Impacts.
National “Mom-Partisan” Coalition of More than 1.6 Million Moms Is First National Organization in the Country to Demand Zeldin’s Removal.
Washington, DC — Moms Clean Air Force’s Director and Co-Founder Dominique Browning called today for EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin’s resignation or firing, citing Zeldin’s corruption of the agency’s mission “to protect human health and the environment.” Instead, with a historically unprecedented slashing of clean air protections, Zeldin has “unleashed a pollution spree that will endanger the health of children and families, and drive up medical costs.”
Browning, co-founder of the oldest and largest Moms-led clean air and climate organization in the country and the first to demand Zeldin’s removal, released the following statement:
“As this year draws to a close, on behalf of the 1.6 million members of Moms Clean Air Force, here’s our New Year resolution: Lee Zeldin must be held accountable. Zeldin is NOT Making America Healthy Again. He has declared war on clean air.
“Zeldin has thoroughly corrupted EPA’s mission to protect human health and the environment. Since his appointment, he has proposed rollbacks and the weakening of protections from some of the most dangerous pollutants known to humankind—pollution and toxic chemicals that cause heart attacks, cancers, neurological and respiratory damage and disease, premature birth, and disruption of our hormone systems. He has also proposed ending EPA’s responsibility to cut the climate pollution that endangers us by repealing the Endangerment Finding. His actions will result in more doctor and ER visits, more chronic illness, and higher costs of health insurance and insurance against the damage of extreme weather to our health and to our homes.
“For 55 years, under Republican and Democratic administrations, the EPA administrator has operated with intention and fealty to the post’s legacy of protecting families and children from pollution. With Zeldin, this is no longer the case. He has unleashed a radical and dangerous slashing of clean air and climate protections.
“With every proposed deregulation, he’s allowing families and children to be exposed to more soot, more mercury, more methane, more toxic chemicals, more tailpipe pollution, and more climate pollution. Lee Zeldin must go.”
Browning sent a letter to the chairs of the Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works and House Committee on Energy & Commerce early this morning, calling for a hearing to hold Administrator Zeldin accountable. Moms Clean Air Force also launched a multi-platform campaign calling for Zeldin’s removal that includes: a video, social and digital media assets, a web landing page, and an email to our members with a petition.
