WHAT: Over 65 Moms Clean Air Force staff, organizers, and members will testify before EPA in support of the agency’s proposed rule to cut methane and other harmful pollutants from oil and gas operations across the country. This is an important step toward addressing the climate crisis and protecting the health and safety of children and families across the country, but more can be done. Moms are urging EPA to go further by finalizing rules that protect children from all sources of oil and gas methane pollution by making the Super-emitter Response Program more accessible to communities, strengthening requirements for storage tanks, and eliminating all pollution from routine flaring.
WHO: Moms from the following states will provide testimony: AZ, CA, CO, DC, GA, IA, IL, LA, MA, MD, MI, MT, NC, NM, NV, NY, OH, PA, TX, VA, VT, and WV. The following impacted residents will be available for interview:
- Patrice Tomcik, Senior National Field Manager. Patrice lives in Gibsonia, PA, where her sons, one of whom is a cancer survivor, go to school about half a mile away from oil and gas wells.
- Laurie Anderson, Colorado State Coordinator. Laurie and her five children live in Broomfield, CO, where a large-scale oil and gas development fracks the land around their home.
- Erandi Treviño, Texas State Coordinator. Erandi lives in Southeast Houston, TX, on the front lines of oil and gas pollution.
WHEN: The hearing will take place Tuesday, January 10- Thursday, January 12. Patrice will testify on 1/10 at the 10:00 AM session, Laurie on 1/11 at the 1:30 PM session, and Erandi on 1/12 at the 1:30 PM session. All times are approximate and listed in Eastern (ET) time. We may be able to provide the media with a recording of each of the above-mentioned testimonies upon request.
