Atlanta, Georgia – Georgia environmental groups, including Moms Clean Air Force, Georgia Interfaith Power & Light, Poder Latinx, Georgia Conservation Voters, and Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, are celebrating the second anniversary of President Biden’s historic Executive Order on climate action: Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad.

Signed on his first day in office, the Executive Order directed the federal government to mobilize a series of initiatives aimed at tackling the climate crisis, achieving true environmental justice, expanding clean energy, creating jobs, and protecting our health from the consequences of climate change.

To mark this anniversary, Moms Clean Air Force, Georgia Interfaith Power & Light, Poder Latinx, Georgia Conservation Voters, and Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environmental – all part of the Climate Action Campaign’s Solutions for Pollution coalition to drive greater Biden administration ambition for strong pollution standards across federal agencies – released the following statements:

“Since his first day in office, President Biden has made good on his promise to be a climate president. From his executive orders to the passage of the landmark Inflation Reduction Act, he has earned the title of ‘Climate Champion.’ However, to hit his goal of cutting carbon pollution in half by 2030, the federal government must act more swiftly and use all levers- including EPA rulemaking. ” – Lily Zwaan, Moms Clean Air Force – Georgia

“There is no time to wait on climate action. Since his first day in office, President Biden has demonstrated his commitment to act with immediacy in caring for our common home, and that is precisely what we need. We are grateful for his executive orders, and the Inflation Reduction Act, and yet, we know that more robust and immediate action on climate is needed to protect Georgians and to ensure a livable planet. Now is the time for the Administration to double down and implement safeguards and climate protections not only through legislation, but through every avenue available, including additional executive orders and expanded rulemaking.” – Codi Norred, Executive Director of Georgia Interfaith Power & Light

“We’re grateful for President Biden and his firm action towards combating climate change and the positive impact bills like the Inflation Reduction Act have made on the lives of everyday Georgians. But now is not the time to stop and rest on past laurels – President Biden must take every available action to continue the fight against climate change, with or without the support of Congress.” – Allie Brown, Political Director, Georgia Conservation Voters

“President Biden made historic progress fighting inflation and lowering costs for the American people with the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act. The law included major investments such as reducing pollution and climate risks. Although this was one important step in the right direction, President Biden must continue to tackle our climate crisis to bring clean air and a clean environment to our communities.” –  Leslie Palomino, Georgia Senior Lead at Poder Latinx – Georgia

“Health impacts of climate change are undeniable and exhibited in all communities across Georgia.  The time to continue momentum on President Biden’s Executive Order on climate change is now.  The best way to continue that necessary momentum is through protective Administrative rulemaking outlined in the Solutions for Pollution campaign.” –  Jessica Mengistab, Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments – Georgia

About Solutions for Pollution: CAC launched the Solutions for Pollution campaign in September 2022, with more than 200 advocacy partners, to encourage the Biden administration to use its existing authority under the Clean Air Act and other laws to set the strongest science-based standards to reduce pollution from transportation, power plants, and appliances, and to set additional standards that protect consumers and investors, lower energy costs, and advance environmental justice.

About the Climate Action Campaign: CAC is a vibrant coalition of dozens of major national environment, environmental justice, and public health groups, working together to drive ambitious, durable federal action based on science, to address the climate crisis. Our goal is to reduce climate pollution and accelerate the transition to clean energy in ways that support justice, jobs, health and economic opportunity for all.
