Washington, DC— Today, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan announced the finalization of new standards that will significantly cut the dangerous tailpipe pollution produced by passenger vehicles. The Multi-Pollutant Emissions Standards for Model Years 2027 and Later Light-Duty and Medium-Duty Vehicles (“Clean Cars”) rule will address multi-pollutant emissions, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, for passenger cars and light trucks manufactured in model years 2027 and beyond.
As an organization that has been fighting for stronger protections against air and climate pollution since 2011, we applaud EPA for taking this important step.
In response to the announcement, Moms Clean Air Force Michigan Field Organizer Elizabeth Hauptman released the following statement:
“Today, we thank the EPA for finalizing strong tailpipe pollution standards–a boon to my hometown of Detroit. Manufacturing cleaner, lower emission cars is good for everyone’s health, good for creating jobs, good for our economy–and it helps in the fight against climate pollution. But for me, it’s also a personal win. My son suffers from asthma, and that’s made worse by tailpipe pollution. It’s why getting cleaner, more affordable cars and trucks on the road is a win-win for my family—and countless others, especially communities harmed by living close to heavy traffic. Importantly, this new standard goes hand-in-hand with the tax credits and infrastructure investments in President Biden’s clean energy plan. From commuter cars to cargo vans, zero-emission solutions benefit people and the air we all breathe.”
