WHAT: On Wednesday, March 22 at 10 AM ET, East Palestine resident and Moms Clean Air Force member Misti Allison will testify at the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s hearing in response to the East Palestine train derailment and petrochemical disaster. The train that derailed in East Palestine was carrying multiple toxic chemicals – many of which are used by the petrochemical industry and are known to be harmful to human health, including vinyl chloride. In her testimony, Misti will describe the toll that these chemicals have taken on her community’s physical and mental health while underscoring that the rapid expansion of the petrochemical industry can increase the amount of toxic chemicals traveling through communities. When trains carrying harmful petrochemicals derail, it is a catastrophe that puts the health and safety of families at risk.
WHO: Misti Allison is a resident of East Palestine, OH, and a mother of two. She and her family live 1.2 miles away from the site of the derailment. She holds a Master of Public Health and Bachelor of Health Science, and is a software marketer. Misti previously worked at the American Cancer Society and Cleveland Clinic. She is a Moms Clean Air Force member.
WHEN: Wednesday, March 22 at 10:00 AM ET.
WHERE: The hearing will take place in room 253 of the Russell Senate Office Building. Live video of the hearing and witness testimony will be available on the committee’s website.
