WHAT: In honor of Black History Month, Moms Clean Air Force & Michigan Clinicians for Climate Action will host a virtual webinar about public health and environmental justice. According to the American Lung Association, Michigan has one of the highest rates of asthma in the country. Childhood asthma rates are significantly higher for children of color-–Black children are 10 times more likely to die from asthma than white, non-Hispanic children. Panelists will highlight the disproportionate burden of pollution on Black communities, call on EPA to set strong pollution protections, and discuss how Justice40’s investments will support environmental justice, clean energy, and public health. Press who join on Zoom will have the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the discussion.
WHO: The webinar will be moderated by Moms Clean Air Force’s Michigan Organizer Elizabeth Hauptman and features:
- Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, Representing Michigan’s 12th District
- Sandra Turner-Handy, Special Advisor to the President of MI Environmental Council
- Taylor Barrow, MSW, Third Year Medical Student, Wayne State University
- Elizabeth (Lisa) Del Buono, MD, President of Michigan Clinicians for Climate Action (MiCCA)
