In honor of International Women’s Day (today!) Moms Clean Air Force is paying tribute to the amazing women who help MCAF fight for clean air.
Lisa is a mother and stepmother of three. She is co-founder and CEO of BlogHer, a community and media company catering to women in social media that attracts more than 25 million unique visitors each month. Prior to BlogHer, Lisa worked as a journalist at CNN and later became editor-in-chief and vice president of programming at Women.com, which she grew into a Top-30 site. She has worked at Hearst and Rodale magazines, E! Television/Online, HBO’s Sex and the City, and Bloomberg and Gallup, among others. Lisa is a leading expert on developing successful online communities and interactive programming for women, as well as media strategies designed to recognize and compensate individual contributors, such as the BlogHer Publishing Network. Lisa was the first Internet journalist awarded a Nieman Fellowship from Harvard University.
Ayelet is mother of Sophie, Zeke, Rosie and Abe. She is the author of The New York Times bestseller, Bad Mother: A Chronicle of Maternal Crimes, Minor Calamities and Occasional Moments of Grace. Her personal essays have been published in The New York Times, Vogue, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal. She has also made radio appearances on All Things Considered and The California Report. Before taking up the pen, Ayelet clerked for a federal judge and became a public defender in Los Angeles, California. She served as an adjunct professor at the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley. Gretchen, the MCAF Field Campaign Organizer, was raised on the shores of Lake Erie in western Pennsylvania and has worked across the state on environmental education and activism. Before coming to MCAF, she was the Interim Director at the Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier, Field Outreach Coordinator with the Clean Air Council and the spokesmom for the Sierra Club of Southeastern PA. Gretchen spends most of her time raising two small children with her chef husband. They blogs about culinary & parenting adventures at GastroMami.
Bethany Snyder
Bethany Tipton Snyder is a MCAF super mom from Ohio. She lives with her husband and children in Kent, Ohio. She is the mother of three amazing kids, including a set of three year old twins. In addition to being a mother, wife and small business owner, Bethany has been an active volunteer with MCAF. She organized a watch party in Kent for a presidential debate, that was well attended (and was covered by Kent State University’s TV station). Bethany also had a letter to the editor published in the local paper on the importance of taking action on climate change. She proudly wears her red shirt to rallies and events to help spread the MCAF message. Bethany is not only engaged with Moms Clean Air Force, but is also very active in her community on a variety of issues, including being the driving force behind the push for a city ordinance allowing residents to keep bees and chickens.
Lori is a green living enthusiast and lifestyle writer, consultant, mother, borderline vegan and recovering attorney, who runs the website Groovy Green Livin. Lori is devoted to sharing and gathering information needed for living a green life. Through each and every small, eco-conscious change we make the world will become a healthier, safer place for us all. In her free time Lori can be found practicing yoga, pitching a baseball, running, cycling, skiing, cooking, or reading.
Liza is a cartoonist and mom to two daughters. She is a public speaker and has spoken at TED, the United Nations, and The New Yorker Festival, among many other places. Liza has appeared on CBS Sunday Morning, NBC and BetterTV, and has been profiled on radio and in numerous magazines, newspapers and online. Along with creating original cartoons for Moms Clean Air Force, Liza is a staff cartoonist with The New Yorker Magazine. When she first began selling to The New Yorker in 1979, she was the youngest and one of only three cartoonists who were women. Liza’s cartoons and commentary can be seen on various websites: CNN, HuffingtonPost, Salon, Daily Beast, WomensEnews, Narrative Magazine and Forbes. Her work has appeared in numerous publications, and her cartoons have been exhibited around the world. Her most recent book is When Do They Serve The Wine? Ronnie is a mother of four children, and lives in the Atlanta area with her husband, Lamar. Ronnie is the amazing woman behind the husband and wife team who founded the award-winning website BlackandMarriedWithKids. Ronnie and Lamar recently produced and directed two Amazon bestselling documentaries centered on promoting marriage in the African American community. The films have inspired a Facebook fan page with over 80 thousand fans in less than two years. The Tyler’s were recently selected by Essence as a Power Couple on The Move on a short list of 23 couples that included the Obamas, Will and Jada Smith and Jay-Z and Beyonce.
