EPA can do something historic if they just move faster. Earlier this year they proposed seven critical clean air and climate standards, all of which will make a significant difference for children’s health. We need every one of these seven standards finalized and implemented ASAP.
Frankly, it’s not happening fast enough. Take 10 seconds to send a message to EPA and President Biden.
Earlier this week, EPA issued a press release to celebrate Children’s Health Month. They reiterated the importance of safeguarding children, especially those in vulnerable populations, from environmental threats in the places they live, work, and play. As Moms, we couldn’t agree more that nothing is more critical than ensuring a safe environment for the children we love.
Late last week EPA moved the federal methane standards forward, an important step in the process toward finalization. This is great news. We need the rest of them to move forward too.
These standards proposed by EPA will deliver on many of the promises President Biden made to cut greenhouse gas pollution and achieve a carbon-free power sector by 2035.
- The methane standards would reduce methane pollution from oil and gas operations by 87% below 2005 levels.
- Proposed car standards would put us on a critical path to boosting the electric passenger vehicle market share to 67% by 2032.
- Proposed power plant standards would avoid hundreds of millions of metric tons of carbon pollution through 2042 and cut tens of thousands of tons of soot, sulfur dioxide, and smog-forming nitrogen oxide pollution.
But we won’t hit these important milestones until all seven standards—for methane, mercury, soot, cars, trucks, petrochemicals, and power plant pollution—are finalized and implemented. It’s all connected, and we need to reduce pollution in all of these categories.
Tell President Biden and EPA to get the job done! Because our children deserve a climate-safe future.
