As the year draws to a close, I’m looking back at all the damage Administrator Lee Zeldin has done to EPA. Month after month, he has relentlessly announced rollbacks of clean air and climate protections, protecting big polluters over people’s health. By now, I’m in full warrior mode, and I have a resolution for the New Year: Administrator Lee Zeldin must go.
Zeldin has thoroughly corrupted EPA’s mission—to protect human health and the environment. Who will pay for this? The impacts of the pollution he is allowing polluters to unleash will threaten our children’s health, now and for generations to come. Zeldin’s reckless agenda will raise medical costs, home insurance rates, electricity bills, and more. We have an affordability crisis right now, and Zeldin is doing everything he can to make it worse.
ZELDIN MUST GO. This EPA Administrator is NOT Making America Healthy Again.
Tell Congress: Hold Zeldin Accountable for Corrupting EPA’s Mission
Within one short year, Administrator Zeldin has unleashed an aggressive campaign to let polluters get away with more pollution, which means:
- More mercury—a potent neurotoxin—from coal-fired power plants.
- More deadly soot, which is linked to the kinds of inflammation that cancer cells thrive on.
- More toxic chemicals, like formaldehyde, linked to cancers and hormone disruption, in the products we use in our homes every single day.
- More tailpipe pollution from trucks, buses, and cars, thanks to his proposal to eliminate all U.S. limits on climate pollution from tailpipes reaching back more than 15 years.
- More petrochemical and plastics pollution from the 50 large industrial facilities that received automatic two-year free passes to pollute.
- More climate pollution, which is rapidly and dangerously heating the planet, destabilizing our weather, and acidifying our oceans as Zeldin wants EPA to stop regulating or monitoring carbon dioxide and methane.
- More AI data center pollution as the oil and gas industry cashes in to fuel these facilities.
Over the years, EPA air protections have been successful—cleaning up pollution, even as businesses have thrived. No one wants to cripple business. We can have—we have had—clean air AND a strong economy.
But that’s not Zeldin’s vision. He has abandoned EPA’s mission in order to prop up big polluters and wealthy industry insiders. He is even bragging about what he is doing: “We will do more deregulation in one year than entire federal governments in the past have done across all federal agencies combined,” he recently said on a podcast.
Here at Moms Clean Air Force, with all of you, our members, we’ve been responding to each and every rollback proposed, signing petitions on behalf of children’s health, lodging testimony about how dangerous all this pollution is, showing up at press conferences to shine a spotlight on what EPA is doing.
But we have had it. ZELDIN MUST GO. Concern for children’s health must be restored. EPA’s mission must not be further corrupted.
Who in their right mind thinks it is OK to have more mercury, that harms the developing brains of fetuses, in our air? Who in their right mind wants to make it easier for toxic chemicals to get into our stuff? Who in their right mind wants to see more climate-warming pollution and unchecked wildfires, hurricanes, floods, and heat?
