EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin is on a dangerous POLLUTION SPREE. Last week, he announced an 18-month delay for oil and gas companies’ compliance with the methane rule. And he did it without first seeking public input, which EPA had considered in finalizing the original rule.
This is an outrage—a dangerous move to allow polluters to make our communities sick while the administration’s attacks on our public health and safety infrastructure make it harder to get well. Join Moms in speaking out about the importance of the methane rule and of gaining public input on any changes to it.
Tell EPA: Delaying Methane Pollution Protections Is Shameful
For over a decade, Moms Clean Air Force has been fighting for methane pollution protections from oil and gas operations because we know how vital these protections are for children’s health. When methane leaks, so do other dangerous air pollutants like benzene, putting children and babies at risk for life-threatening cancers, asthma attacks, premature birth and low birth weight, and even harm to developing brains and nervous systems.
While a few states like New Mexico, where I live, have passed methane protections, EPA’s federal methane rule would strengthen those protections and help protect families from California to Pennsylvania. These protections are common sense and science-based—carefully crafted with years of data on how methane and other pollutants from oil and gas operations contribute to our changing climate and affect the health of our families and communities.
We cannot delay in protecting public health from oil and gas methane pollution. Not to mention, cutting planet-heating methane is one of the best levers we have to quickly and significantly reduce climate pollution across the U.S. and slow the rate of global warming.
Take 20 seconds today to tell EPA this is unacceptable! Any delay in implementing the methane rule will destabilize progress on climate and put families’ health at risk. Our children deserve to breathe clean air now.
