When our Ohio Field Organizer, Amanda Rowoldt (pictured), saw black smoke coming out of the Freepoint Eco-Systems “advanced recycling” facility in Hebron, Ohio, last month, she knew something was wrong. The sudden onset of intense nausea, headache, and dizziness was her next clue.
The footage she captured of the plume caught the attention of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA), which is now looking into the incident. The Reporting Project covers the ongoing investigation and the facility’s history of air quality violations.
