🚨 Did you know that Congress is currently considering changes that could weaken protections from dangerous, toxic chemicals in our everyday products?
Every day, families come into contact with countless chemicals—through our toys, cleaning products, furniture, food packaging, and even our workout gear. Most of us assume someone has made sure those chemicals are safe, but that is not the case.
The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) is our nation’s bedrock law for chemical protection. It’s the law that gives EPA the authority to review chemicals used in the products we live with every day.
And despite Americans across the political spectrum wanting more chemical protections, not less, some lawmakers are now considering changes that could make it easier for dangerous chemicals to reach the marketplace.
If these proposals move forward, they could:
- Make it easier for new chemicals like dangerous PFAS forever chemicals to be approved without strong independent review.
- Give chemical companies more influence over reviewing their own products—a major conflict of interest.
- Undermine EPA’s ability to protect people’s health from the worst chemicals already in use, like cancer-causing formaldehyde and vinyl chloride.
