Philadelphia, PA – Moms Clean Air Force applauds Governor Tom Wolf’s Executive Order prioritizing Environmental Justice by establishing an Office of Environmental Justice (OEJ), codifying the Environmental Justice Advisory Board (EJAB), and establishing an Environmental Justice Interagency Council (EJIC). This Executive Order was announced in concert with legislation written by the members of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus. The planned legislation supports the executive order and requires an environmental impact statement on permits.
In response to the Executive Order and proposed legislation, Moms Clean Air Force Pennsylvania chapter had this to say:
“For too long, low-income communities and communities of color have borne a disproportionate environmental burden, including higher exposure to harmful pollution from multiple sources. Many have paid for it with their health and in some cases with their lives. We stand in solidarity with the community of impacted residents, advocates, partner organizations, and those in leadership who will not rest until ALL Pennsylvanians are protected equitably from the cascading harms of pollution and climate change. This historic announcement of executive and legislative actions is an important step in the fight for environmental justice in Pennsylvania. Moms Clean Air Force looks forward to collaborating and working to ensure there is meaningful action to protect the communities who need it the most. We won’t stop until there is Justice in Every Breath.”
