Don’t roll your eyes. I just have to say it: We at Moms Clean Air Force are not giving up on the Build Back Better Act.
We’re following the swirl of predictions about the law’s demise in Congress. How divided the parties are. How we can’t get anything done.
Are you kidding? This is a Congress that already passed an epic infrastructure bill in November. With bipartisan support. Moms fought hard for that bill because it contains serious support for cleaning up our air and our water.
Moms also demanded an all of government approach from the Biden administration. So we are cheering the US Army’s announcement yesterday that it will invest billions of dollars in helping coastal communities deal with extreme weather and improve climate resilience.
And we aren’t giving up this time around either. Sure, politics is messy. Bipartisanship is elusive. Things feel stuck and hopeless and chaotic and maddening. Until all of a sudden they aren’t.
There’s a lot at stake in this bill for tackling global warming. It includes the largest single investment in climate solutions in US history. And so, like caregivers the world over, we will fight relentlessly to make the world better for our children. And we will win.
That’s the mompartisan view: Do what it takes to get things moving in the right direction. Focus on what we can win, not on what we are losing. Our job now is to tell those Senators to get this job done. The sooner the better.
We aren’t going away and we aren’t letting up.
