Celerah Hewes

Celerah Hewes

Celerah Hewes is the Senior Manager for State Field Campaigns for Moms Clean Air Force, managing state and local campaigns and working directly with key oil and gas states. She also leads national campaigns on methane and petrochemical pollution and directs partnerships and advocacy efforts to protect families from pollution and climate change.

Celerah started with Moms Clean Air Force in 2017 as the New Mexico Field Organizer. For five years, she worked to establish Moms Clean Air Force as a voice for parents around the state concerned with the health impacts of climate change. She worked with coalition groups to support Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's call for nation-leading state methane and ozone rules and has testified numerous times at the Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Management and Budget, and other federal agencies on issues including methane, clean car standards, and toxic chemicals. She has also facilitated meetings with parents and their elected officials to advocate for climate action, public health, clean energy, air quality regulations, and plastic reduction. Celerah’s work has been featured by the Albuquerque Journal, Public News Service, the Santa Fe New Mexican, Fast Company, The Cool Down, and Source NM.

Before starting with Moms Clean Air Force, Celerah worked with a variety of organizations focused on sustainable business and environmental action. She was the Chief Operating Officer for the New Mexico Green Chamber of Commerce and later worked with local businesses, farmers, and commercial kitchens around the state. Celerah was born in Corrales, New Mexico, and received her BA from the University of New Mexico. After getting her master's degree in U.S. history from San Francisco State University, she returned to New Mexico in 2010. Celerah currently lives in Albuquerque with her daughter.
