Date: July 8, 2025
About: Environmental Protection Agency Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2025-0124-0001
To: Environmental Protection Agency

My name is Kiya Stanford, and I am the Georgia State Organizer for Moms Clean Air Force, a national organization of over 1.5 million moms, dads, and caregivers united to protect the next generation from air pollution and the impending dangers of the climate crisis. I am writing to you today to strongly oppose EPA’s proposal to roll back the Carbon Rule. Climate pollution standards for power plants are essential in protecting families and communities as a whole from greenhouse gas emissions and the adverse effects they cause to human health.

Climate change poses a threat to the health and well-being of everyone. Impacts of climate change include more severe heat waves, like the one the Southeast experienced a few weeks ago, supercharged weather events, and increased air pollution to name a few examples.

Fossil fueled power plants are responsible for almost 25% of the climate pollution generated in the U.S and directly contribute to a hotter climate. The greenhouse gases emitted from the fossil fuel industry are a large factor in global warming and continue to pose a tremendous threat to humans, wildlife, water ways, and consequently our quality of life. Certain vulnerable populations such as infants and toddlers, pregnant women, the elderly, people of color, low-income communities, and people with disabilities are more likely to be impacted by the effects of climate change.  Health impacts from climate change can range from increased respiratory illnesses, injuries, and death from extreme weather events like those in Texas last weekend, adverse birth outcomes and so many more!

It is our responsibility to make sure we do all we can to protect our families, neighbors, and communities from the health threats associated with climate change. Rolling back the Carbon Rule is in direct opposition to that responsibility.

The April 2024 EPA rule to limit greenhouse gases from power plants was a step in a positive direction in not only holding polluters accountable but for protecting public health. Please uphold these vital protections and do not roll back the Carbon Rule. Thank you for your time.
