Testimony: Kindra Weid, EPA’s Proposed Rescinding of the Endangerment Finding, August 20, 2025

Testimony

By: Kindra Weid, Electric School Bus Outreach Coordinator, Moms Clean Air Force
Date: August 20, 2025
About: Environmental Protection Agency Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2025-0194
To: Environmental Protection Agency

My name is Kindra Weid, and I’m here on behalf of Moms Clean Air Force, Michigan Clinicians for Climate Action, the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, and all living things impacted by our warming climate. I am a critical care RN and air quality advocate.

I strongly oppose Administrator Zeldin’s attempt to rescind the Endangerment Finding and climate pollution limits for motor vehicle tailpipes.

Extensive evidence demonstrates emissions that cause global warming do indeed endanger the public health and welfare of current and future generations because they supercharge dangerous weather. In response, the EPA issued the Endangerment Finding in acknowledgment of its clear responsibility to protect people in the U.S. from the health impacts of climate change.

If we are to hold people accountable to their words, which people with integrity do, this appears to be in direct discordance with what Administrator Zeldin stated during his confirmation hearing:

“I want my daughters, your loved ones, and every child across our country to thrive in a world with clean air, clean water, and boundless opportunity. If confirmed, I pledge to enthusiastically uphold the EPA's mission. I will foster a collaborative culture within the agency, supporting career staff who have dedicated themselves to this mission. I strongly believe we have a moral responsibility to be good stewards of our environment for generations to come.”

For the record, the mission of EPA is to protect human health and the environment.

In the hospital where I work, we see people suffering from the direct impacts of air pollution and climate change—and rescinding the Endangerment Finding and climate pollution limits on tailpipes will only make these impacts worse. Extreme weather events are becoming more commonplace across the nation. In Michigan, we've had an increase in heavy precipitation leading to floods and degraded water quality; more extreme heat days, which contribute to ground level ozone formation; and less ice cover on the Great Lakes, which impacts ecosystems. Extreme weather (wind and ice) leads to power outages that impact medical equipment, and its dysfunction leads to medical emergencies, such as home oxygen concentrators, CPAP machines that treat sleep apnea, and refrigeration for medications like insulin.

Climate change costs families and communities a fortune as healthcare costs rise and lives, homes, jobs, and farms are lost or damaged in floods, droughts, and increasingly dangerous weather. Meanwhile, it’s clear the protections in place now have done no damage to the fossil fuel industry and its billionaire owners; they continue to post record profits while our children, families, and communities pay the price.

Please do not revoke these important protections that limit climate pollution as they have deep impacts on the economy, the environment and human health—now and for future generations.

Thank you.
