By: Danielle Berkowitz-Sklar, Project Manager, Field Events, Moms Clean Air Force
Date: August 19, 2025
About: Environmental Protection Agency Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2025-0194
To: Environmental Protection Agency

My name is Danielle Berkowitz-Sklar and I work with Moms Clean Air Force and our Latino community program, EcoMadres. I am here to voice my strong opposition to EPA’s proposal to rescind the Endangerment Finding and limits on greenhouse gas pollution from tailpipes.

At Moms Clean Air Force, I have had the honor of speaking with many mothers displaced by climate disasters who’ve shown extraordinary resilience in the face of such loss and devastation. I think of Alex, a mother and 2-time hurricane survivor. Twenty years ago, she was displaced by Hurricane Katrina with her 2-year-old daughter. She lost everything, but rebuilt her life in North Carolina, believing it to be a climate-safe haven. Then, just last year, Hurricane Helene hit. Her family business and home were destroyed again. Stories like hers are not uncommon. In fact, in 2023 alone, 2.5 million Americans were displaced by climate-related disasters.

I’ve spoken with mothers who fled extreme heat and flooding, compounded by political turmoil and food insecurity. They’ve resettled with their children in unfamiliar communities, only to face new traumas, isolation, and discrimination. It is heartbreaking, and I have been deeply moved by these stories, but have YOU? Have YOU been listening? You, as decision-makers, can help make these stories mean something bigger. You can help ensure that other families and future generations don’t face this same pain and fear, and this frustration of feeling voiceless. We need you to open your ears and your hearts.

As someone who has always dreamed of having a big family, just like mine, I now question whether that dream is safe or even fair. What kind of future am I bringing children into when our world is increasingly unstable, and when elected officials continue to favor polluters over human beings?

Defending the Endangerment Finding is about our survival. Climate change disrupts jobs, schooling, access to healthcare, and food. For kids, these impacts can have lifelong consequences. Even prenatal exposures to extreme heat can cause impacts that last into adulthood.

Today, we testify on behalf all mothers, of kids, of youth, of all people on this planet today and of those to come. We are paying the price of climate neglect—with our wallets and with our health. Do the right thing. Protect the Endangerment Finding.
