By: Ali Simpson, Senior Manager, Field Campaigns
Date: October 1, 2026
About: Docket # EPA-HQ-OAR-2025-0124-2920
To: EPA

Thank you for the opportunity to give testimony today. My name is Ali Simpson (Spell name). I am a Director of Field Campaigns with Moms Clean Air Force, an organization of over 1.6 million parents and caregivers advocating for clean air and a healthy climate on behalf of children nationwide. I live in Bedford, New York with my wife and two young sons—a 5.5 year old and 2.5 year old.

I’m here today to strongly oppose efforts to remove power plant standards and to prevent future administrations from limiting climate pollution from the power sector. This new proposal is so divorced from reality and so utterly reckless it feels almost impossible to articulate, but I will try.

As a mom of two young children, this is heartbreaking and maddening. This is an abject failure to fulfill EPA's mission of protecting human health and the environment. Climate pollution from power plants is heating the planet, supercharging dangerous extreme weather, and endangering human health and welfare. Power plants are responsible for roughly a quarter of climate-heating pollution in the U.S. Approximately 60% of power generation comes from burning fossil fuels like coal and natural gas. These are the facts. Stating that power plant pollution is not harmful, and that EPA cannot regulate carbon pollution from power plants does not make it so. What's especially galling about this action is the attempt to block EPA from ever regulating these harmful emissions. Lets be clear—you are damning future generations to a world that is unsafe and places uninhabitable. Every fraction of a degree of warming amplifies the devastating impacts of climate change.

You live in this world too. You have children and grandchildren too. I ask you think of them as you make these decisions. With each of these actions it's clear that EPA no longer believes it serves and protects the people, but the fossil fuel industry. There is no other conclusion to draw.

In a time when climate change is driving up the cost of health care, insurance, and groceries, with gas at record highs and families struggling to make ends meet—EPA under Lee Zeldin consistently makes the fossil fuel industry's wildest dreams come true, while all but ensuring that the future will be a nightmare for our children. The industry has gotten everything on their wish list. From free passes to pollute, to billions in bailouts, to emergency orders forcing aging coal plants to keep operating with ratepayers footing the bill and breathing in toxic pollution, and now this outrageous proposal to not regulate carbon pollution from power plants. This action is cartoon-level villainy.

In order to protect the health of our communities and reduce the greenhouse gas pollution causing dangerous and costly climate change, EPA must not rescind EPA’s greenhouse gas findings for power plants. Thank you for your time.
