Washington, DC – A total of 189 medical, public health, environmental, and faith-based organizations convened by Moms Clean Air Force sent a letter to Congress today, asking that legislators exercise their oversight authority to examine the betrayal by current EPA leadership of its core mission: to protect human health and the environment. The letter requests that the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works conduct hearings regarding EPA actions under Administrator Lee Zeldin’s leadership. The letter calls on the administrator to testify.
There is broad national support for a close examination of EPA’s activities that are endangering human health. Organizations signed on include Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, Elders Climate Action, Environmental Law & Policy Center, GreenLatinos, Hip Hop Caucus, League of Conservation Voters, Natural Resources Defense Council, and Physicians for Social Responsibility.
The letter, representing millions of members, warns that EPA’s actions will lead to an increase in harmful air and climate pollution. EPA activities under current leadership will make it easier and faster for industry to put more toxic chemicals into our air, water, food, and everyday products. Current EPA actions will also worsen the affordability crisis in our country by increasing medical bills, as well as the costs of home insurance, health insurance, and the rebuilding of homes and communities devastated by the impacts of rising temperatures.
