Health experts and climate leaders say Wisconsin families deserve affordable, clean energy, not more years of burning dangerous and expensive fossil fuels

Sheboygan, WI –Today, September 24 at 11 a.m. CST, Moms Clean Air Force and a diverse coalition of health and climate leaders will hold a press conference to sound the alarm on Alliant Energy’s plans for the Edgewater Generating Station. The facility is a coal plant that was slated to shut down in 2025, but closure has now been delayed to 2028. After it closes, the station will be converted to a methane-burning plant.
Expert speakers will highlight how burning fossils fuels–such as coal and methane gas–harms human health and contributes to climate change, and why Alliant Energy’s plan to transition the plant to methane gas is an example of why we need the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to protect communities from health-harming nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.
The event is hosted by Healthy Climate Wisconsin, Moms Clean Air Force, the Sierra Club, Faith in Place, 350 Wisconsin, the National Wildlife Federation, and the Climate Action Campaign.
