(PHOENIX) – Moms Clean Air Force has launched a new ad campaign highlighting the impact of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean School Bus Program, which is giving students access to cleaner, healthier air by helping school districts replace polluting diesel school buses with zero-emission electric models. The Clean School Bus Program was created in 2022 as one of the Biden Administration’s key federal climate and clean air investments that cuts tailpipe pollution and improves air quality for our children and families.
To date, Arizona schools have been awarded over $50 million to transition to clean school buses.
“EPA’s Clean School Bus program made these new buses more affordable for our district and for the taxpayers whose kids will now benefit from a cleaner, healthier ride to school,” said Ed Hermes, President of the Osborn School District Governing Board. “As a father and a school board leader, I couldn’t be prouder that our community is on the cutting edge of trying to make our air quality better.”
“Transitioning to electric vehicle buses isn’t just about reducing emissions; it’s about safeguarding the health and future of our children,” said Sam Garcia, Director of Maintenance & Transportation of Osborne School District. “With our new electric buses, students can breathe cleaner air during their daily commute, ensuring they arrive at school safely and are ready to learn.”
“Every Arizona parent wants their kids to have healthy, productive school days from the moment they step out the door in the morning to the moment they come back,” said Ylenia Aguilar with Moms Clean Air Force Arizona. “Unfortunately, for many Arizona students, tailpipe pollution from cars and buses is exacerbating asthma symptoms and contributing to a hotter climate now and in the future. The Clean School Bus Program is a way for parents and district leaders to replace dirty buses with zero emission ones that reduce air pollution throughout our community and provide our kids a healthier ride to school. More Arizona School districts should take advantage of this program for our kids and for our future.”
