Washington, DC – This afternoon, the US House of Representatives introduced a bill undermining the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), a move that jeopardizes the health of our families and children. This act is the country’s bedrock chemical safety law, giving EPA the authority to review chemicals for safety and protect Americans from exposure to toxic chemicals. In response, Moms Clean Air Force Director & Co-Founder Dominique Browning released the following statement:
“This bill is all about boosting chemical industry profits at the expense of our children’s health.
“We have way too many toxic chemicals in our stuff already, our clothes, our children’s toys, our houses, and everything else. This bill will make it near-impossible to regulate extremely toxic chemicals — from vinyl chloride to formaldehyde to PFAS forever chemicals — chemicals that cause cancers, birth defects, developmental problems, and other harms.
“The bill would actually make it faster and easier for the chemical industry to get toxic chemicals into our products, the air we breathe, and the water we drink.
“Moms, our children, and our entire families are sick of being the guinea pigs for the chemical industry. And we are sick, literally, and heartbroken, to see our young people get sick from chemical exposures. This must be stopped.”
