Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – On September 21, Moms Clean Air Force will join Third Act Pennsylvania and other partners for a Sun Day celebration in Pittsburgh. This event is part of a nationwide mobilization that marks a pivotal moment in America’s clean energy transformation. Spearheaded by renowned environmental activist Bill McKibben, this nationwide campaign will feature hundreds of events across all 50 states.
In honor of Sun Day (September 21), Pittsburgh clean energy advocates will hold a press conference at 1:30 pm at the Frick Environmental Center in Squirrel Hill.
The State Senate, State House and City of Pittsburgh have all passed resolutions declaring September 21 as Sun Day in Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh. Rep. Mandy Steele and City Councilwoman Deb Gross, who sponsored the resolutions, have been invited to speak. The event will also include a tour of the Frick Environmental Center, highlighting their solar panel array.
“As my own family works to install solar panels on our roof, Sun Day is an incredible opportunity for families to learn more about how solar panels can help cut electricity costs and climate-warming pollution – all while reliably providing energy and creating cleaner air for our children,” says Vanessa Lynch, Moms Clean Air Force’s Pennsylvania Field Organizer.
“It is not acceptable that Pennsylvania is ranked 49th in the nation in terms of the growth of renewable energy and that we get less than 1% of our energy from solar. Third Act Pennsylvania is all in on Sun Day to turn that around and help Pennsylvania residents benefit from the cheapest, most reliable and environmentally friendly energy ever,” says Tom Hoffman, Third Act Pennsylvania Coordinating Committee member. “Our T-shirts have ‘Energy from Heaven Not From Hell’ in big letters on the back and that is the message we are sending to Pennsylvania today.”
