Washington, DC— Today, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan announced the agency’s proposed tailpipe pollution standards for light- and heavy-duty vehicles at an event in Washington, DC. Strong tailpipe pollution standards will help tackle the climate crisis and curtail our families’ exposure to pollution from cars and trucks, which is known to trigger asthma and cause lung infections, heart attacks, stroke, premature death, low birth weight, and cancer.
National Field Manager Liz Hurtado spoke at today’s event and is available for interviews in both English and Spanish. Liz supports our EcoMadres program in its mission to equitably protect the health of Latino children and families from air pollution and climate change, both of which disproportionately impact Latinos. In her speech, Liz highlighted how EPA’s proposed tailpipe pollution standards bring us closer to addressing these longstanding environmental injustices. Traveling from their hometown of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Liz attended with her 9-year-old daughter, Leena, who introduced EPA Administrator Regan.
