The administration’s move to make American life more expensive will also lead to more tailpipe pollution in the air children breathe.

Washington, DC – Today, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) finalized a rule to weaken the Biden-era Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standards, standards designed to reduce energy consumption and consumer costs by increasing the fuel economy of cars and light trucks. In response, Moms Clean Air Force Public Health Manager Elizabeth Bechard released the following statement:
“Weakening fuel economy standards is bad for our children. Less efficient vehicles emit more tailpipe exhaust, a noxious mix of pollutants that cause an alarming range of health harms and contribute to the climate pollution that’s making our weather more extreme and dangerous. And at a time when so many families and communities in the U.S. are struggling to make ends meet with the high price of gas, it’s absurd that the Trump administration is taking an action that will cost consumers more at the gas pump, and lead to more tailpipe pollution. Moms Clean Air Force is deeply disappointed by yet another choice by the Trump administration to prioritize industry greed over our families’ health, safety, and economic security.”
